Bishop Abel Kanyankole is a distinguished Ugandan entrepreneur, religious leader, driving instructor, road safety advocate, and education champion whose inspiring journey from humble beginnings to national prominence continues to impact lives across Uganda and beyond.

He is the Founder and Director of Wendi Driving School, one of Uganda’s leading driver and mechanics training institutions, with branches spread across multiple districts and cities.

Through his vision and leadership, the school has trained thousands of drivers, mechanics, and transport professionals, contributing significantly to road safety, professional driver development, and employment creation.

Beyond entrepreneurship, Bishop Kanyankole serves as the Senior Pastor of Kahunge Christian Fellowship Church in Kamwenge District, where he provides spiritual leadership, mentorship, and community development support.

His ministry is dedicated to transforming lives through faith, integrity, servant leadership, and empowerment.

Humble Beginnings and Entrepreneurial Journey

Bishop Abel Kanyankole’s life story is a powerful testimony of resilience, determination, faith, and hard work.

His journey began in not so easy circumstances, undertaking various income-generating activities to support himself and his family.

Over the years, he has worked in diverse sectors, including entertainment as a Disco DJ popularly known as DJ Shamb, trading as a hawker (mutembeyi) in Mubende, he operated on Lake Victoria as a fisherman, and he also engaging in the boda-boda, taxi, and bus transport industries.

He also worked at a washing bay as a car washer (kanaabbe) and he sold groundnuts aboard passenger buses.

Through discipline, persistence, and an unwavering commitment to personal growth, he gradually built successful transport and business ventures, eventually owning a fleet of vehicles including buses and establishing one of the region’s most respected driving schools.

His inspiration to join the ruver training industry was after he lost his brothers to Road related accidents, these include; the late Bagenyi Barnabas, the late Basimakyi Amos, and the late Basimakyi Moses.

The passing of his brothers produced an idea in Bishop Kanyankole to start a driver training school and that is how Wendi Driving School was founded, a venture that has grown into a nationally recognized institution for driver and mechanics training.

Today, his remarkable “grass-to-grace” journey serves as a source of inspiration to entrepreneurs, students, community leaders, and young people in the region.

Family Life

Bishop Abel Kanyankole is married to Mrs. Basemera Florence Kanyankole, and together they have built a strong and supportive family foundation.

They are blessed with nine children — seven daughters and two sons — and one grandchild.

Bishop Kanyankole often credits his family as a source of strength and motivation throughout his journey in business, ministry, and community service.

Commitment to Lifelong Education

One of Bishop Kanyankole’s most admired qualities is his dedication to lifelong learning.

Despite achieving success in business and ministry, he returned to formal education later in life to complete his Primary Seven studies and successfully sat for the Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) in 2022.

His decision attracted national attention and inspired many adults who had previously abandoned their educational pursuits.

Demonstrating that age is never a barrier to learning, he continued with secondary education and remains committed to advancing his academic qualifications.

His message is simple yet powerful: with faith, determination, and God’s guidance, no dream is beyond reach.

Road Safety and Professional Driver Development

Bishop Kanyankole is widely recognized for his commitment to promoting road safety and professionalism within Uganda’s transport sector.

Through Wendi Driving School and various partnerships with local governments, transport stakeholders, and the Ministry of Works and Transport, he has championed responsible driving practices, licensing, and road safety awareness.

His initiatives have particularly focused on supporting commercial drivers, boda-boda riders, taxi operators, and heavy commercial vehicle drivers to obtain proper training, valid driving permits, and the knowledge necessary to operate safely and professionally.

National Leadership

In recognition of his experience, leadership, and contribution to Uganda’s transport industry, Bishop Abel Kanyankole was elected and he currently serves as the National Chairperson of Motoris Professional Driver Training Association Uganda Limited.

In this role, he provides strategic leadership aimed at strengthening driver training standards, promoting road safety, improving professionalism within the industry, and advancing the welfare of driving instructors and professional drivers nationwide.
